A collaborative effort between Ally Herro, Kai Voll, Aubrey (BLANK), and I to create an interactive and immersive play experience that intertwined with other group’s experiences in a bi-yearly festival called the Playfaire for the course Radical Play as an Endeavor (ARTG-50).
I played an evil wizard in search of pieces of my mystical staff which were scattered across the Playfaire for my “final senior project for the esteemed wizard academy”. Participants were sent on a fetch quest by me to find the pieces in my stead which were possessed by a cast of colorful characters from other dimensions. These included a hobby-horse jousting knight repurposing the staff as a halberd handle, a card cheating cowboy who wont give up the golden lasso unless you can beat him, and my witch ex-wife who lives on the other half of our shared tent just itching to put a curse on me and will exchange the magical orb in exchange for the participant’s help.
Along with our own experience, I would also chat with participants, answer questions, give directions, trade trinkets, and play cards with players engaging in other experiences.
Once all the pieces were returned, the experience culminated in me putting the staff together and revealing my true evil intentions; I tricked the participants into helping me build my mystical staff, allowing me to curse the Playfaire with infinite rain and darkness. (funnily enough it did start actually raining).
Subsequently I have a heart attack on the spot due to the curse my ex-wife put on me that activates anytime I cast my own curse, and the Playfaire is saved!
